Here's an idea for gigabit Internet in Austin!
DOWNLOAD & GO – for mobile devices
Today’s home networks and connected devices support much faster communications than they last-mile cable or DSL services available to us, and that’s a gating factor when downloading large files, including music, photos & videos.
1Gbps Ethernet is already the standard for most new PCs, and wired home networks already use 1Gbps or 10Bbps Ethernet. Wireless capability is also a standard PC feature, and Wi-Fi and UltraWideband standards are already as fast as 200Mbps will soon reach 1Gbps speeds.
COMPARE DOWNLOAD TIMES AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS
Consider “The Matrix,” a movie that consumes 7.8 GB in standard-definition DVD format. It will take at least 13 days to download over a 56 Kbps dial-up connection. (That’s about how long it took the Pony Express to deliver a letter across country.) It will still take 11 hours with a 1.5 Mbps cable or DSL connection - about the time it takes FedEx to deliver a priority package. But with a 1Gbps fiber network, you could download the movie in LESS THAN A MINUTE and go on your way.
