Here's an idea for gigabit Internet in Austin!
Real “Town Hall” Democracy
Austin is committed to open government and a high level of citizen participation. While the City already has many way to enable residents to see and participate in self-government, an open fiber network could provide universal access to real, 2-way participation between the City and its citizens. City Council proceedings, the activities of the 50+ citizen advisory boards and commissions, and contacts with City departments could all become interactive and accessible to citizens in real time. The benefits: (1) better informed citizens; (2) more representative and responsive government; (3) improved City services; and (4) further progress toward Austin’s vision to be “the most liveable city in the country.”
